Includes Munk's scientific papers and speeches, computer programs, and data files, graphs, raw data, correspondence and papers, itineraries, memoranda, notes, conferences and symposiums, as well as slides and photographs. The people series consists of correspondence exchanged with sir Edward Crisp Bullarad, Cecil H. Green, Andrei Monin, Frank Press, Roger Randall Dougan Revelle, Henry Stommel and Harald Ulrik Sverdrup. The committee series includes material concerning the American Miscellaneous Society. The travel series documents Munk's trips to the Peoples's Republic of China (1977 and 1978). The series also documents Munk's participation in expedition to the Arctic (1949), Bikini Atoll (Crossroads, 1946), and his work on the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Capricorn Expedition (1952). The slides consist of 602 images of waves, acoustics, breakers, tsunamis, tides and the campus of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Munk, Walter H. (Walter Heinrich), 1917-

Geophysicist and oceanographer. Munk received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the California Institute of Technology in 1939 and 1940 and his Ph. D. in 1947. Munk served as assistant and associate professor of geophysics at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1947 to 1954 when he became professor of geophysics in the University of California Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics.
